So simple to make, they’re fun and really delicious too!

For even more Snack Ideas For Kids check out my full collection of easy recipes.

Ingredients laid out on the worktop ready to start baking.

The three ingredients you need are:

  • Shortcrust Pastry
  • Custard
  • Ground Nutmeg

I used the carton of fresh custard that you find in the chilled aisle of the supermarket but the longer life carton custard will work just as well too.

Cutting out 12 circles in the rolled pastry with a pastry cutter.

Use an 8cm pastry cutter to cut out 12 circles from the pastry.

If you don’t have a pastry cutter use something of a similar size, like a glass or cup, and cut around the edges with a knife.

Cut circles being out into a greased muffin or cupcake baking tin.

Pop the pastry circles into a 12 hole muffin or cupcake tin.

Fill the pastry almost to the top with the custard.

Custard being added using a spoon.

Sprinkle a little nutmeg on the top of each one and then bake for 20 minutes.

Sprinkled with nutmeg and ready for the oven.

When you remove the tarts from the oven you might find that the custard has expanded and spilled over onto the edges of the pastry.

Leave them to cool for a few minutes and it will contract back in.

Fresh out of the oven and left on a black mesh cooling rack.
