Hidden Veg Pasta Sauce Recipes For Picky Eaters

January 7, 2025 by Bianca Carey Spencer, Updated September 19, 2025

Are you looking for a way to encourage your fussy eater to eat more veggies without the constant mealtime battles? Then try these Hidden Veg Pasta Sauce Recipes!

Hidden Veggie Tomato Sauce

A large pot of hidden veggie tomato sauce garnished with fresh basil leaves.

This blended vegetable pasta sauce is one of the first hidden veg pasta sauce recipes I made.

And whilst it’s one of my older recipes, it’s still a firm favourite and one of my most popular recipes to date.

Airfryer Creamy Hidden Veg Pasta Sauce

A bowl of airfryer creamy hidden veg pasta garnished with finely grated cheese.

This recipe is great if you have kids that prefer more of a creamy pasta sauce over a more tomato based sauce.

Made even easier by cooking in the airfryer, it cooks in only 15 minutes so easy to rustle up mid-week.

But don’t worry if you don’t have an air fryer, I also provide instructions for cooking in the oven.

No Tomato Sauce

If your kids absolutely won’t touch a tomato based pasta sauce, then give this tomato free sneaky veg pasta a go instead!

Not only can you use this as a simple pasta sauce, but it can also be used as a base for pizzas or even for adding to meals like bolognese.

Broccoli Pesto Pasta

Broccoli is one vegetable that can be really hard to get kids to eat! It’s a real love it or hate it veggie.

But rather than serving it up in it’s original form, use it to make this kid-friendly vegetable pasta dish.

If your kids like pesto pasta then this is a really easy way to get all the goodness of broccoli into them without a fight!

Broccoli Stalk Pasta Sauce

A blue bowl with a serving of broccoli stalk pasta in it and a kids plastic yellow spoon.

If you think a “green sauce” like the Broccoli Pesto recipe above is a no go for your picky eater, then this is a really good alternative to try.

The stalk is just a nutritious as the green florets of the broccoli but when blended into the sauce, it produces a really nice mild flavour. And without the green colouring that should make it more palatable for fussy eaters!

Slow Cooker Ten Hidden Veggie Sauce

A white slow cooker packed with carrots, leek, cauliflower, celery, mushrooms, broccoli, red pepper and herbs.

This vegetable packed pasta sauce has TEN hidden vegetables in it! Yes, 10!!

Made in the slow cooker, it’s super simple to make and freezes really well in individual portions too so great one to batch cook and have on hand for during the week.

Slow Cooker Hidden Veg & Lentil Sauce

This is a hearty, nutritious sauce packed with hidden veggies and protein-rich lentils!

The addition of lentils to the hidden veggie sauce makes it super filling and cheap to make too. Great if you have a large family to feed or are just looking to increase your protein intake.

Spinach Pesto

If I served up a portion of cooked spinach to my kids I would be met with very unhappy faces! And quite possibly tantrums.

But blended up into this pesto pasta sauce and no-one even bats an eyelid!

What is even better about this hidden veg recipe it that is doesn’t require any cooking!

I often tend to keep away from hidden veggies recipes as my kids are so good at even spotting the tiniest spec of veg in any meal I prepare for them, but I tried the creamy one and it went down very well, and to my amazement they said they actually enjoyed it.

This has helped us out as a family no end.

Always worrying about the lack of veggies in my kids diet, and always trying to think of ways to get them to eat something they will all like and a meal we can all eat as a family rather than having to spend loads of time in the kitchen.

    Thanks 🙂
